‘The Butcher and the Lamb…’
You are the butcher, but I never saw
Because you wore the mask of a sheep
While you walked me to the slaughter house
You are the butcher, but I never realized it
Because you brayed along with me
As you laid me gently on the stone slab
You are the butcher, but I never thought so
Because you cooed soothing words
When you plunged the knife in my heart
You are the butcher, and I am the lamb, but
I kept thinking that it was all a mistake
Even as I was bleeding from the broken heart
You are the butcher, but no one would have believed
Because you put on a black suit for my funeral
And sent my favorite begonias to my grave…
