When Vishaka’s ex-fiancé and now-would-be-brother-in-law jilted her for her sister, Vishaka’s life became difficult. To escape from this torture, she willingly allowed her friends to push her into another form of torture – to a competition for a date with Zaheer, even though she didn’t want to. Okay, it all went as smooth as possible, but when Zaheer came late for the date and acted like a smug, arrogant scum (A handsome scum!), that’s when he started to get into Vishaka’s nerve.
And there started their romance with sassy banter and sparkling love-story. What I love most about this book is its language. There is something beautiful about Ruchi’s words and the way she construct them so as not to bore (me) much. I admit I hate reading Indian romances, because of the language, but somehow, I felt the need to finish this book and so I did (even though, most of the so-called best-sellers in Indian romance (M&B) category is still sleeping in my e-library).
I came across a lot of jilted-romances, jealous-sisters and the fake-fiancés and you would be, as well, if you loved romances. So what makes this book stand-out from the rest? Ruchi didn’t write a romance with an exemplary heroine, who commits no wrongs. In fact, she made Vishaka like all of us – someone who made mistake and who is addicted to work, someone who could look past all the hurt and admit her own faults when coming to her ex-fiancé, and someone who could fall in love and is willing to take a chance.
I expected a lot of jealousy and show-offs, flaunting in front of the sister etc., as it was common in most of these jilted-romances. But again, I faced some disappointment (or rather surprises)! There’s no scene to portray how the sister envied Vishaka for the Bollywood heart-throb. Also the description of the two cities is wonderful that I felt like I was travelling among the street shops in Lucknow!
All in all, it is a good read, but somewhere along the way, I had a feeling that Ruchi could’ve made it much better if she had tried a little more.
I would give a 3.5/5 for this spicy and sweet romance.
Disclaimer: I would like to mention that this is purely my own perspective of the novel and this may or may not be biased. I am infinitely in love with the genre romance… with some spunk and this novel has all the traits I loved in romance. So, I loved reading it.
